Inspirational Words About Kindness

Today, some Inspirational Words About Kindness…

A friend called me recently to tell me that one of her daughter’s teachers had committed suicide. Needless to say, everyone involved was extremely upset and dismayed by this.

Many looked upon this as a very selfish act on the part of the teacher. I thought to myself how quick we are to judge another after the fact, when it is too late. And how terribly slow we are to recognize the walking wounded all around us.

The news of this teacher’s suicide reminded me of a story I read about an elderly woman who had decided to commit suicide one morning, but someone had stopped to feed some pigeons with her in the local park and the kindness of that one stranger changed her mind and saved her life. We never know what is in another person’s heart. What level of pain or anguish they may be going through. And in some cases, their pain may be so great that living no longer seems an option to them.

We may never know the often immense consequences upon another, of an unkind word, a thoughtless deed, or a hasty decision made from an unexamined heart.

Each day, everyone of us, has a new opportunity to make a huge difference in our world. If I had one dream for humanity, it would be that tomorrow morning we would all wake up with amnesia, remembering nothing. We would then see the world for the very first time, with new eyes, the way a new born baby sees it, except that we would now be in a grown up body.

We would have no conception of what was considered to be beautiful or good or important according to society’s ridiculous standard of worth. Every person and everything would be a blessed opportunity for us, just the way they are.

Life would be waiting with another possibility for us to be all that we could be. Another opportunity to practice the gift of kindness in every precious moment. Another chance to rise above our mere mortal existence and for that one grand moment in time to walk among the gods. Another day to love.

Inspirational Life Quotes

Inspirational Life Quotes…

The reason I have chosen to create a site about inspirational life quotes is that just recently I have been thinking about how really important they are. In fact, looking back over my own life I came to see that just before I made a major shift, change or decision I was deeply influenced by an inspirational life quote or saying. And it occurred to me that the right words, showing up at the right time, can and do change lives.

Here is an example. Many years ago I visited our local movie house to watch the just released film “Dead Poet’s Society”. I sat in the very back row, munching on my soft, buttered popcorn totally unaware that my life was about to change forever.

The movie Dead Poets Society is set in 1959 at a conservative and autocratic boys prep school. It tells the story of an English teacher named John Keating, brilliantly played by Robin Williams, who inspires his students to change their lives of conformity through his amazing and unique teaching of poetry and literature.

There was a very special scene in this film, where Robin Williams said something that made me gasp, bolt upright in my seat, fixed spellbound on his words, which were…

“We don’t read and write poetry because it is cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”

I remember I was so stunned that I spilled what was left of my popcorn all over the floor. You see, up until this point I had been working in my day job, artfully playing the career game, striving diligently to climb the corporate ladder, while pursuing my dream of becoming an author on the weekends. I spent Saturday afternoons in local coffee shops sipping on lattes and writing inspiring poems, uplifting articles and spiritual memoirs. On Sundays, I would record what I had written and listen to it on my way to and from the office during the business week.

I realized in that split second, in that movie theatre, on that auspicious night, that I had it all wrong. I was putting the focus of my life in the wrong place. I returned the next evening to watch this film again and I sat there in that same seat, waiting anxiously to hear those most inspiring words again. They literally washed over me as I crouched there in the dark, in utter joy and delight with tears streaming down my face.

And the rest as they say is history. I left my corporate position in a telecommunications company to go after my dream.

And so it is my hope here that as this blog expands, you find some inspirational life quotes and motivational sayings that may change or alter your life in some small or lofty way.

If you have a story or example of this or even just some favorite life qoutes or sayings, please share with us in the comments section below. Thank you.

Generosity of Spirit

Be generous with your time …

Stay fully present with each encounter, as if this moment, is the most important, and nothing else exists.

Be generous with your words …

Never miss an opportunity to tell someone how you feel about them, or something they have done. A word of encouragement, a note of appreciation, a sincere compliment, can brighten someone’s day and even change a life.

Be generous with your thoughts …

Think the best of others, and see them as they would like to be, and not as they are now.

Be generous with your money …

Find an occasion to share what you have with others. Money is like love, the more you give away, the more returns to you.

Be generous with your heart …

Keep it open, no matter how frightening that may be sometimes. An open heart will heal every ailment and restore peace to your soul.

Be generous with your smile …

Give it away to everyone you meet, and see the world reflected back to you, in joyous celebration.

Be generous with your love … It is who you really are, and why you came here, and in the end, it is all that really matters anyway.
